The Chapel of Our Lady of Bedeau.

This chapel is XI or XII Century and the entrance is now below the present ground level. The lancet windows appear to be original and it has a round apse with a half- domed vault - visible in the top photograph and through the chancel arch in the second. It has had very few alterations or additions since then apart from the vestry which is probably late XIXth C and some damage appears to have been done at the west end possibly by flooding -it stands next to a tributary of the River Ceou- or war. The original roof was probably not the clay tiles but lauze, limestone tiles, as is still to be found on the apse roof. The Chapel stands very much alone although buildings have recently started to be built nearby. It is recommended for contemplatives, as befits a chapel built in honour of a vision 0f the BVM, but is only open from Easter until Tous Saints. Still nothing to stop one praying outside in Winter. Peace!
